It Was A Year Of High Rolling In Vegas That I Found Myself.
You're supposed to write a bio in the third person, but who cares. It's my story.
I"m from the south side of Chicago and in 7th grade my parents sent me to Catholic school, which was absolute misery for me.
Going to a school where the girls were already clique'd up for life and being an outsider was HELL.
But as a 50 year old writing this, I can see the gift it was.
Because I was rejected, I wasn't allowed to be a follower. I always had to take the lead if I wanted anything out of life.
Even my parents were of no help. Everything I asked for, they said "NO"!
Can I take piano, skating, flute, French, Girl Scouts..No No No!!
At the time I had no idea, they were giving me the greatest gift.
I had no choice but to take care of myself. I had to make my own money. I've worked since I was 14 years old.
I left home at 16 with $173.
Fast forward many many waitress and bartending jobs, trade show modeling, sales jobs, and falling asleep in front of my Jehova's Witness boss during a one on one meeting....32 years of Chicago was enough for me.
In 1999, I moved to Las Vegas! I left a nine to five structured town where everyone did the same thing. Get a shitty job and move into their parent's basement apartment or down the block.
Las Vegas is the Wild Wild West! Six months of summer. Zero nine to five! A 24 hour town! I was excited from the moment I arrived.
Within a year of moving here, I met a man who showed me more love than I had ever experienced in my entire life, and a slice of life I had no idea existed.
I learned how to live in the moment. I was shown respect everywhere I went. It changed me. It raised the bar. I would never live a life without it.
It was the happiest time of my life. I never ever thought of the future. I was in love and having a blast living in the best suites in Las Vegas, eating out every meal, shopping at will, and being waited on hand and foot.
Then at the age of 34, I found my most fabulous boyfriend of my entire life dead from suicide. The gambling got out of control and he ended it out of shame.
I was devastated and didn't know how I was going to live without him or get back to a normal life, so I ran away to New York City.
I got a horrible haircut and a girl turned me on to hair extensions, and then my stylist hired me to be her assistant. After six months I opened up shop in my dining room.
I had no idea how to get business. I set up a website in 2002 when nobody was doing that. I placed a Google Ad when I had no idea what I was doing.
Finally a woman came to my home and left me a deposit to do her hair. Then three women came in a week. Then three women came per day and I no longer had to worry about my future.
It was great for me to be around nurturing women at that time, and to keep busy while I healed myself mentally from my boyfriend's suicide.
At the age of 35, these hair extensions fell into my life and that was an extraordinary gift as a vehicle to get to know women on such an intimate basis.....2-3 hours in my beauty chair every two months.
I call my beauty chair "the magic chair" because so many secrets are shared and revealed in that intimacy.
I had women all over the NYC tri-state area begging me to do their hair and I loved every minute of it.
I was doing the hair of women from Fox Business, MSNBC, Broadway Actresses, and I was well known for being the best in the business. I even worked on Britney Spears Las Vegas show for a bit in 2014.
It was my client from Fox Business who encouraged me to write a book about women since I was so young looking and I wanted to be on the radio.
By age 41 I was putting on weight rapidly and feeling so tired and no doctor could diagnose me and there was no way I was putting out a beauty book.
The worst part, was that I was in tremendous fear about how I was going to take care of myself.
For the next 4.5 years I searched for all natural remedies and came to see that I was in early menopause. Duh! That makes sense!
I never believed in medications or HRT, so I found the most amazing all natural FOOD BASED solutions and they worked and have been working ever since as I've kept this weight off and my health amazing ever since.
My clients stuck with me through this ordeal and wanted to know what my research uncovered since they too were going through the same symptoms and problems.
So that launched my new business....
